2010 and still Alta, Deer Valley and Mad River Glen do not allow snowboarding.
Yes it’s pretty hard to believe. But it exists, these resorts consider snowboarders as second class citizens not allowed to lay down lines at their slopes. They probably still sit in their offices and call African Americans ***gers etc. You get the idea. I ski and snowboard and wouldn’t spend my money at these places even if they were the cheapest resorts around. I started skiing when I was 3 and started snowboarding about 25 years ago, no need to go into my age but I can remember the first ski area near me to allow snowboarding, Alpine Mtn in the PA Poconos. It was a great breakthrough and provided me and my friends with lift accessed slopes for the first time ever. Since then I’ve ridden all over the world, from Europe to Chile, Alaska and most of North America. So now I’m planning a road trip across the country snowboarding as I go and I find out I can’t ride at several areas in Utah. I am just finishing up 20 years in the US Navy and thought I have surpassed every superficial racist and personal hatred thing in existence. Apparently not..I guess I feel like the 18 year olds who are good enough to serve their country but not to have a beer. I can give 20 years of my life in defense of the US and still can’t ride a snowboard at some areas. I know this won’t change by the time I get to Utah next month, but I really do hope it will change.
Snowdrive 2010
Preparations are underway for my road trip from CA to PA starting March 1st. Stops along the way should include Park City Utah, Sun Valley Idaho, Jackson Wyoming, and Vail Colorado. The usual Team Factoid players will be present and my buddy Jerry Lee from out here will ride part way through. I’m pretty excited so far and hope I get a few more days on the snow before we take off.
The 20th annual Parkfield Classic, Oct 2009
I figured the Parkfield Classic would be cool, and it sure didn’t disappoint, lots of great racing and fun were the order of the weekend. I put together a highlight album on the gallery page. Check ‘em out here
Point Mugu surf contest.
The contest this year was much better than last years event. More people, more surfers, more vendors and most of all more action. The contest itself had lots of great surfers. While the expression session on Sunday had some of surfing’s greats involved in it. Christian Fletcher, Dane Reynolds, Kalani Robb and Sean Hayes. All in all it was a great weekend of surfing and the public got a chance to see lots of great action and a great SoCal break.
Random shots from the contest, But click on the “My photo galleries” link to the left for all the photos.
